Efficient Bandwidth Allocation for Backup Paths

چکیده
In MPLS networks, failure resilience of a Label Switched Path (LSP) is essential in guaranteeing the QoS of the path. This can be achieved by allocating backup LSPs through which packets can be routed in case of primary LSP failiures. bandwidth efficiency and expeditious path restoration are two desirable features for the design of backup LSPs. This paper tackles the bandwidth efficiency with a scalable and robust algorithm for backup path bandwidth sharing based on statistical aggregation. By analyzing the relationship among the amount of allocated backup bandwidth, the number of backup paths, and path failure probability, given an upper bound of fatal failure probability, we find the amount of backup path bandwidth can be approximated by the product of the average primary path bandwidth and a quadratic function of the number of primary paths and the average primary path failure probability. Simulation results show that the fatal failure probability is less than 0.5% as the number of primary paths spans from 1 to 110, the primary path failure probability is uniformly distributed between 0.001 and 0.2, and the primary path bandwidth is uniformly distributed. Compared to the generic approach of allocating a backup path with the same bandwidth as the primary path, this algorithm is 50% to 80% more effcient. Compared to the baseline case where no backup bandwidth is allocated, the capacity loss for maintaining restorable primary paths is only 20%. Keywords—Backup Path Recovery, MPLS

A new efficient spare capacity allocation algorithm in self-healing MPLS mesh-based survivable networks
Network survivability gauges the ability of a network to support the committed Quality of Services (QoS) continuously in the presence of various failure scenarios. MPLS Mesh-Based network can be used to provide network survivability in case of link and node failure through predesign path protection techniques. In the Preplanned self-healing networks, we have to provision adequate spare capacity...

We propose a new approach exploiting the failure risk (node, link or Shared Risk Link Group) structures to enhance the backup path computation. Upon failure, our approach classifies the backup paths into two categories: operative backup paths and inoperative backup paths. An operative backup path is an active backup path which really receives traffic of some affected communications while an ino...

In this paper, we introduce the Pre-cross-connected Segment First —PXSFirst protection scheme; a new path-based protection schemes for WDM optical networks. The goal of the PXSFirst scheme is to achieve fast recovery, while maximizing bandwidth sharing to improve bandwidth utilization. Similar to pre-cross-connected trails (PXTs) protection scheme, PXSFirst ensures that all backup paths are pre...
متن کاملPLR-based heuristic for backup path computation in MPLS networks
To ensure service continuity in networks, local protection pre-configuring the backup paths is preferred to global protection. Under the practical hypothesis of single physical failures in the network, the backup paths which protect against different logical failure risks (node, link and shared risk link group (SRLG)) cannot be active at the same time. Thus, sharing bandwidth between such backu...

To ensure continuous operation in the event of an edge failure, each connection uses a set of backup bridges, each bridge protecting a portion of the pr...
